The Oscar winning Australian director will speak at BAFTA headquarters on December 6.

BAFTA has announced that Peter Weir will deliver its annual David Lean Lecture on December 6 at the Academy’s headquarters in London.

The Oscar winning Australian director’s latest project, the World War II set drama The Way Back starring Colin Farrell and Ed Harris, is due to be released in the UK in December. It is his first feature since the 2003 film Master And Commander.

Now in its 10th year, the event aims to provide insights from the world’s leading film-makers. Previous David Lean lecturers include Ken Loach, Robert Altman and Woody Allen.

“Few other directors have consistently married whole-hearted critical and commercial success, and so it’s entirely deserved that his career is laden with awards and nominations at the highest levels of the industry. We are truly delighted to have him join us for what we expect to be a very special evening,” said BAFTA chairman committee Finola Dwyer.
