Screen 2011 Star of Tomorrow Alexandra Roach will star in Private Peaceful, based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, which begins shooting this week in the UK.

Roach, who is soon to be seen as the young Margaret Thatcher in the hotly anticipated The Iron Lady, will star alongside an all British cast including George Mackay, Jack O’Connell, Richard Griffiths, Frances De La Tour and Maxine Peake.

Simon Reade has adapted the screenplay for the film, which is based on the novel by War Horse writer Michael Morpurgo and follows the life of Tommo Peaceful from rural Devon to the front line of the trenches in World War I. Pat O’Connor is directing.

Shooting takes place on location in Ipswich and Suffolk, with Guy de Beaujeu and Simon Reade producing for Fluidity Films, along with Poonamallee Productions and Peppermint PicturesExile Media are distributing in the UK.

Mark Knopfler is composing the score.
