In response to the commenter re market salaries, I don't work for them but did in the very distant past, thus I know that BFI rates are at best roughly comparable to civil service rates. They used to be linked automatically to the civil service, but Govt changed that to local negotiation. However with the BFI grant being continually cut the chances are that annual increases would have fallen behind Civil Service increases. The new advertised salary for the Senior Production & Development Executive is nothing special relative to the responsibilities and expectations of what BFI funded films should achieve. It also seems low in comparison to what a comparable person in the BBC, Channel 4, ITV or BSkyB would make. When I worked there an average BFI salary would be enough for a single person to save up a few years and get on the first rung of the property ladder with a one bedroom flat, that's hardly the case now. A sign of the times!
