Universal's action sequelThe Chronicles Of Riddick grossed an estimated $1.8m on 700 screens in 13territories through UIP at the weekend, powered by a third place $1.1mAustralian bow on 226 screens.

The picture opened top inNew Zealand on $225,000 from 46 and raised its UIP running total to $5.5m.Industry-wide it has taken $6.1m to date and there are 35 territories to open,including Japan on Aug 7 through Toshiba.

The live-action Thunderbirdsadaptation took $1.2m on 535 in three territories, where the principalperformance was $1.1m on 438 for $5.4m in its second weekend in the UK. To datethe picture has grossed $5.5m. Japan opens next weekend.

Focus Features' Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind raised itsUIP total to $1.2m at the weekend. Highlights were $95,000 from 65 and a 45%drop in its second weekend in Brazil for $380,000, and the same amount on 95 inits second weekend in Mexico, where the romance fell 53% and has grossed$430,000.

UIP executives said the picture continues to enjoy a strong run inArgentina, where it has grossed $265,000 after 17 days.
