The International Film Festival Rotterdam, which is under the new leadership of director Rutger Wolfson for its 37th edition, is focusing its programme on Free Radicals, 'film-makers and artists who idiosyncratically and energetically follow their own course.'

US film-maker Robert Breer and US artist Cameron Jamie will be the subject of Focus programmes, and there will also be a tribute to Paul Sharits within the programme section Exploding Cinema.

The festival will also screen New Zealand short film Free Radicals by Len Lye in its short film stand Starting From Scratch.

The IFFR runs Jan 23-Feb 3, 2008. Wolfson, who comes from the art world, has been named director of this year's festival after the departure of Sandra den Hamer.
