Italy's RAI Cinema has pacted with Maurizio Totti's Milan-based
Colorado Films to produce four new films including Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores' upcoming project As God Commands (Come Dio Commanda) based on best-selling novelist Niccolo Ammaniti's book of the same name.

The film reunites Salvatore with Ammaniti, who authored their 2003 collaboration I'm Not Scared.

Salvatores told ScreenDaily.com that he is 'fascinated by Ammaniti's writing for his ability to investigate, to get to the DNA of things.'

As God Commands, a Euros 4.5m-budget thriller focuses on an intense father-son relationship changed by a homicide. The project is currently in casting stage. 'It is not an easy film to cast - they are not stereotypical roles,' the Neapolitan director said.

Principal shooting is scheduled for late 2007 in Northern Italy. 'It's a film for which we need rain, cold, rivers, highways and shopping centers,' Salvatores says.

The director also confirms that he is currently in development for One World, an English-language original screenplay written by the director himself.

'It is a much more ambitious higher budget picture,' Totti said, adding that the film-makers are looking for international partners.

Salvatores describes the picture as a 'Joseph Conrad style sea adventure' that chronicles a ship crossing from India to Ireland. A third Salvatores project is yet to be defined.

Finally RAI and Colorado will produce a Euros 1.5m first feature by shorts director Matteo Rovere, based on an Andrea Cotti's noir book, also published by Colorado entitled Girl's Games (Giocho da Ragazze).
