Javier Bardem will receive the 23rd Santa Barbara International Film Festival's (SBIFF) Montecito Award on Jan 28, 2008.

Bardem, who stars in the Coen Brothers' upcoming thriller No Country For Old Men and Mike Newell's upcoming epic romance Love In The Time Of Cholera, is being recognised for 'a series of classic and standout performances in his career.'

Bardem became an international star following his role opposite Penelope Cruz in Bigas Luna's 1992 Venice Silver Lion winning romantic comedy Jamon, Jamon.

He was nominated for a best actor Oscar and Golden Globe in 2001 for his performance as the Cuban dissident Reinaldo Arenas in Julian Schnabel's Before Night Falls, and won Venice's Coppa Volpi for that role in 2000.

Key roles include The Sea Inside, which earned him a second Coppa Vopi in 2004, The Dancer Upstairs, and Goya's Ghosts.

The festival is set to run from Jan 24-Feb 3, 2008. For more details visit the festival's website.
