Kathryn Bigelow, currently drawing awards heat for directing The Hurt Locker, has been named the 2010 Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Outstanding Director of the Year.

Festival organisers will screen a retrospective of her work on February 8 in what has become an annual tradition for the guest director.

Bigelow’s credits include Strange Days, Point Break, Near Dark and Blue Steel.

The festival will run from February 4-14.
