Steve McIntyre has quit as chief executive of ScottishScreen, the funding body confirmed on Thursday.

McIntyre has said he does not want his contract renewed whenit expires at the end of August. The body, which administers National Lotteryfunding, will start the search for his replacement next week, offeringcandidates a three-year contract.

Scottish Screen receives £2.7 million in executive funding ayear and about £3 million in lottery cash to back the Scottish film industry.Most recently, the body announced a three-way tie up with BBC Films andContentFilm at Cannes to bankroll films from new Scottish talent.

The body's recent credits include acclaimed titles such as YoungAdam, Sweet Sixteen and Morvern Callar but it has often been at thecentre of the perennial argument over the use of public funds in a commercialbusiness.
