Senator Entertainment and X Filme Creative Pool have decided to go their separate ways.

An agreement was reached between X Filme managing director Manuela Stehr and Senator board member Christopher Borgmann for X Filme to take over the 56.2% stake Senator had been holding in X Filme since 2002.

As Senator Entertainment board member Helge Sasse ponted out, 'it is time for both companies to go their own ways in production again as previously because Senator has been striving towards greater involvement in the production of German films for the past year and wants to intensify these activities.'

X Filme's managing shareholder and producer Stefan Arndt added that the 'drawn-out insolvency of the 'old' Senator AG and the substantial changes in the German landscape' had meant that it made more sense to have 'friendly competition than inner and outward ambiguity.'

Upcoming projects for X Filme this year include Julie Delpy's The Countess based on the life of Countess Bathory, with Delpy in the lead role and Daniel Bruehl and William Hurt attached for the other leads. The German-French-Belgian co-production will be shot on location in Germany this spring and is being handled internationally by Celluloid Dreams.

Morever, X Filme is lining up Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon, which will be shot on location in Brandenburg in the summer.

At the same time, Senator and X Filme will continue working together on the distribution of X Filme projects via the distribution arm X Verleih AG where Senator retains its 31.38% shareholding.
