Spanish media group Sogecable has closed an exclusive ten picture deal with Spyglass Entertainment for pay-TV outlet Canal Plus and Canal Satelite Digital's PPV service Taquilla.

Among the titles included in the deal are box office sensation The Sixth Sense, Brian de Palma's Mission To Mars, Edward Norton's directorial debut Keeping The Faith and Shanghai Noon starring Jackie Chan.

The Spyglass accord comes at a time when the pay-TV market in Spain is hotting up and competition for content is tougher than ever. DTT platform Quiero Television launches May 5 with, among other thematic channels, an exclusive output deal with Universal.

In March, Sogecable signed an exclusive 16-title deal for PPV with DreamWorks SKG, as well as output agreements for pay-TV and PPV with Manga Films and Vertigo Films, local distributors handling blockbuster US product.

Last week, Sogepaq - Sogecable's rights and acquisitions arm - picked up all rights in Spain on forthcoming Nora Ephron film Numbers, produced by Paramount and set to star John Travolta, Lisa Kudrow, Tim Roth and Bill Pullman. It was the second pick-up, after DreamWorks-financed Chicken Run, made through the joint acquisitions venture Sogepaq launched last October with Canal Plus Image. Last year, Sogepaq signed two deals for two pictures each from Icon Entertainment and Seven Arts Entertainment.
