Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) and United Entertainment Korea Co Ltd (UEK) have formed a distribution alliance whereby the South Korean company will distribute SPHE titles on DVD and Bu-ray in the territory.

UEK sprung from the closure of SPHE's South Korean office and is headed by SPHE's former managing director of South Korea Peter Woo as well as additional former SPHE Korea employees including former sales director Sang Do Lee.

SPHE's senior vice president of international T Paul Miller said the deal ensured a 'smooth transition' for customers and would 'serve to increase SPHE's overall profitability in the region.'

'Korea remains a healthy market for home entertainment and UEK has strong, long-standing relationships with our customers,' UEK president Woo added. 'We are proud to continue working with SPHE and look forward to a successful partnership in Korea.'

Seoul-based UEK also licenses content from Universal Pictures International Home Entertainment.
