With two Golden Calves - for best film and best actress for Carice van Houten, Vincent Bal's Minoes, based on a classic children's book, was the big winner at the 22nd Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht.

During the closing ceremony on Friday night, director George Sluizer (The Vanishing) received a special Jury Award for his career. His latest film, The Stone Raft (based on a novel by Portugese Nobel prize-winner Jose Saramago), was nominated twice but came away empty-handed

Jacob Derwig won the best Actor Award for his role in Zus And Zo, directed by Paula van der Oest, who is planning to make an English-language version of this family drama. Best Director Award was presented to Alejandro Agresti, for his latest movie Valentin. The screenplay Award went to Edwin de Vries, for The Discovery of Heaven, directed by Jeroen Krabbe, based on a novel by Harry Mulisch . The Award for Best Documentary was given to Ramses, a biography on the legendary Dutch singer/actor Ramses Shaffy.

The nominations of the jury, presided by producer Matthijs van Heijningen, caused something of a stir in the Dutch press. One of the best reviewed Dutch movies of recent years, the musical Ja Zuster, Nee Zuster that was released this week, did not receive one single nomination.

For first-time festival director Doreen Boonekmap the festival was a big commercial success. During this edition 90,000 tickets were sold, a 15% compared to last year.
