Warner Bros’ Practical Magic 2 topped the UK and Ireland box office this weekend as fellow new releases Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger and Pressure nabbed the second and third spots.

Practical Magic 2 opened on £2.8m from 670 cinemas for a strong £4,179 location average. It is almost triple that of the opening for the 1998 original which debuted with £997,000 and will likely pass that film’s £3.3m lifetime total within the next week.

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles in Practical Magic 2 as two witch sisters attempting to break their family curse. Susanne Bier directs with new cast members including Maisie Williams and Joey King.

Disney’s Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger debuted with £1.6m from 670 locations, for a £2,388 site average. Including previews, the concert film grossed £2.7m with Imax contributing to 14% as of the end of Saturday (September 12).

It debuted ahead of the £1.4m and £1.1m openings of this year’s fellow concert releases Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour and EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour still holds the record with a £5.7m debut in 2023, having dethroned previous recordholder Michael Jackson: This Is It, which kicked off with £4.9m in 2009.

Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern direct Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger which follows the Gallagher brothers on their 2025 reunion tour. It premiered at Venice Film Festival earlier this month.

Studiocanal’s World War Two feature Pressure opened with £1.5m from 702 sites for a £2,137 location average. It opened below Studiocanal’s fellow UK-focused war film The Imitation Game which debuted with £2.8m back in 2014. Including previews, Pressure has a total of £2m.

Universal’s The Odyssey may have dropped to fourth place but has entered the top 10 highest-grossing films in the UK with a £84.6m cume, overtaking the £83.9m of Top Gun: Maverick. In its 9th weekend, Christopher Nolan’s epic dipped just 42% with £890,000.

Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially become the third highest-grossing film in the territory after overtaking the £97.3m of Spider-Man: No Way Home. It dropped 49% in its 7th weekend with £840,000 and is now up to £98.1m, but is unlikely to surpass the totals of Skyfall (£102.8m) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (£123.3m) to climb any further up the all-time chart.
