Japan's Asmik Ace has picked up worldwide sales rights to Hirokazu Kore-eda's project Air Doll (working title), which stars Korean actress Bae Doo-na.

The film, which is currently in post-production after wrapping at the end of January, is based on a manga created by Yoshiie Goda. It follows the story of an inflatable sex doll that comes to life and begins a relationship with its owner, a video store clerk.

Japanese actor Arata also stars along with Susumu Terajima, Joe Odagiri and Ryo Iwamatsu. Taiwan's Lee Pin-bing, who regularly works with Hou Hsiao hsien, is the DoP on the film.

Asmik Ace is now in talks with Western sales agents about selling on the film's rights outside of Japan. The company also recently boarded the project as Japanese distributor and co-producer with Japan's TV Man Union and Engine Films.

Asmik Ace is also co-producing Tran Anh Hung's adaptation of Haruki Murakami's novel Norwegian Wood with Fuji TV.
