Spain's Canary Island of Tenerife will host thenewly-created International Historical Film Festival of La Laguna (Oct 13-15).

Billed as a pioneer cultural and social eventin Spain, the festival, dubbed FICHLA, hopes to up its budget next year and runsubsequent editions over seven days.

Teodoro Rios, organiser of the Spanish Film Screenings of Lanzarote, is director of the new festival, which housesthree official sections for features films, documentaries and short films. Sixhistory-themed features and documentaries are included in the officialcompetition for each genre.

A retrospective called The Time Machine willdeal this year with the 60th anniversary of World War II. TristanBauer's San Sebastian competitor Blessed By Fire (Iluminados Por El Fuego), about the Falklands War, will close the event.
