Summit Entertainment has acquired international rights to Terrence Malick's modern-day drama Tree Of Life starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain.

River Road is financing Tree Of Life, currently shooting in Texas from Malick's original screenplay. River Road founder Bill Pohlad is producing alongside Malick regularsSarah Green and Grant Hill as well as Plan B's Pitt and Dede Gardner.

Tree Of Life is described as the story of a family who must come to terms with a devastating loss. In doing so, they realize that with love there is no separation, no death, no fear.

Speaking of Tree of Life, Summit CEO Patrick Wachsberger said: 'We are fortunate to have the opportunity to offer our clients around the globe a chance to obtain the rights to one of the most anticipated films to come to theatres next year.

'Terrence Malick is a creative force that always delivers thought provoking and exciting films and with a great cast including Brad Pitt and Sean Penn alongside a top notch production entity in River Road, we are confident this film will leave its mark on movie-goers around the globe.'

Summit has also boarded Disaster Movie, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer's spoof comedy about youngsters who struggle to survive a series of natural disasters. Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo and Carmen Electra star in the project which is currently shooting.

The Cannes slate includes Todd Graff's teen comedy Rock On (formerly Will), which launched at the EFM in Berlin and is filming now; Alex Proyas' sci-fi thriller Knowing with Nicolas Cage; Sonke Wortmann's period drama Saint Joan; and Catherine Hardwicke's vampire tale Twilight with Kristen Stewart.
