Hot off 3D the family adventure’s mighty $56.2m international launch at the weekend, AFI FEST presented by Audi said on Monday (Oct 31) the North American premiere of the film will close the festival on Nov 10.

The festival is set to open on Thursday (Nov 3) with the world premiere of Clint Eastwood’s J Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Steven Spielberg directed The Adventures Of Tintin from the iconic comic books by Herge. Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg star, among others.

Spielberg produced with Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy from an original screenplay by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish.

The story follows the young reporter and his fiercely loyal dog Snowy as they discover a ship carrying an explosive secret that may hold the key to vast fortune as well as an ancient curse.

“Steven Spielberg is a national treasure,” Bob Gazzale, AFI president and CEO, said. “He has written this nation’s cultural legacy over four decades, he inspires artists and audiences alike and he honours us all by premiering The Adventures Of Tintin.”

Spielberg received the AFI’s Life Achievement Award in 1995.
