The filmmaker was in Switzerland to accept his lifetime achievement award, two years after he was first invited to collect the honour before being promptly arrested on a 30-year-old charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

The Polish-born filmmaker collected his award last night (27) as the festival unveiled its surprise film, Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir.

Laurent Bouzereau directed and Polanski’s friend Andrew Braunsberg produced the film, which explores Polanski’s childhood and career, the Sharon Tate murder and the controversy surrounding his arrest in 1977.

Polanski’s Carnage recently received its world premiere in Venice.
