Universal Pictures haspicked up rights to Terry Brooks' book series Magic Kingdom For Sale which The Mummy creator Stephen Sommers willdirect.

Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel will adapt the story, the first in a series ofsix books about an attorney widower who buys a magical kingdom and must save itfrom an evil demon. The sixth book is due to be published in 2006.

Sommers will produce the picture along with his partner Bob Ducsay through TheSommers Company banner, which has a term deal with Universal.

David Alpert, who brought the project to Circle Of Confusion, will also serveas producer, with Andy Cohen of Grade A serving as executive produce alongsideDavid Engel and Jason Lust of Circle Of Confusion.

Universal production executive Jeff Kirschenbaum will oversee for the studio.

Sommers' current producing projects with Universal include the remake of FlashGordon, which he is also writing, as well as Airborn, Flame Over Indiaand The Big Love.

Ganz and Mandel recently adapted Fever Pitch for the Farrelly Brothers' upcomingversion of Nick Hornby's popular novel.
