Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur's White Night Wedding took best feature and six other awards at the Icelandic Film & Television Academy Awards in Reykjavik. The awards honour the local industry.

White Night Wedding had been nominated for a record 14 awards. It is Iceland's official candidate for an Oscar nomination as best foreign feature and has been Iceland's biggest local success of 2008.

Oskar Jonasson's Reykjavik-Rotterdam, which had been nominated in ten categories, left with five statuettes, including best director. Both White Night Wedding and Reykjavik-Rotterdam are produced by Kormakur's company, Blueeyes Productions.

Icelandic director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson received the academy's honorary award. Fridriksson, who has not made a film since 2004, is currently in preparation with his new project, Mama Gogo.
