Roman Polanski will commence shooting his French-German-UK contemporary thriller The Ghost starring Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan and new cast members Olivia Williams, Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson and Jim Belushi in Berlin on February 4.

Filming will take place mainly in Studio Babelsberg as well as additional locations in Berlin. Summit International will continue pre-sales at EFM.

Deals have already closed with Pathe in France, Kinowelt in Germany, Optimum in the UK, Rai Cinema in Italy, Acme UAB in the Baltic States, Dutch Filmworks in Benelux, SPI International in Eastern Europe and Odeon in Greece.

Sales have also concluded with Sam Film in Iceland, United King in Israel, Sun Distribution Group in Latin America, Jaguar Films in the Middle East, Lusomundo in Portugal, Svensk in Scandinavia, and WPM Film in Thailand. ICM represents North American rights.

The RP Films, Babelsberg Film and Runteam III project is based on Robert Harris' novel of the same name about a former UK Prime Minister writing his memoirs in an Eastern Seaboard hideaway who hires a professional ghostwriter after his longstanding aide drowns. The young man's arrival threatens to unravel sexual and political intrigue with potentially devastating international ramifications.

'There are great roles at the heart of the movie and we got great actors to play them,' Polanski, who adapted the book with Harris and is producing with Robert Benmussa and Alain Sarde, said. 'I couldn't be happier.'

'After The Pianist and Oliver Twist, it's a thrill to make a thriller with Polanski,' Benmussa and Sarde added.

'We are so thrilled to be working again with Roman Polanski in a genre that he mastered over the years with Knife In The Water, Cul-De-Sac and Frantic,' Summit International's CEO Patrick Wachsberger said.

McGregor is represented by Endeavor, Brosnan by CAA, Williams by Independent Talent, Polanski, Cattrall and Belushi by ICM and Wilkinson by Lou Coulson Associates.
