Writers Guild Of America West (WGAW) board of directors member Tom Schulman will receive the WGAW's Valentine Davies Award in recognition of his career and service to the industry.

Schulman has been a WGAW member since 1986 and served as president of the Writers Guild Foundation from 1998 to 2002. He currently serves as vice president of the foundation.

He will receive the honour at the WGA's 2008 Honorary Awards Luncheon on April 23 in Los Angeles.

Schulman was an instrumental force behind the writers forum Words Into Pictures and served as chair of the forum's organising committee in 1997 and as a member of the committee in 1999 and 2002.

His won the Oscar in 1990 for Dead Poets Society and other credits include Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Medicine Man, Eight Heads In A Duffel Bag and Me, Myself, & Irene.
