China’s Wanda Pictures has sold a string of Asian territories on Wuershan’s The Ghouls, includingTaiwan (CMC), the Philippines (MVP) and Singapore (Shaw).

The treasure-hunting fantasy adventure has also gone to Indonesia (Cinemaxx), Vietnam (BHD) and Thailand (IPA). The film is one of ten to receive the quota for mainland films in Taiwan this year.

Wanda is handling Asian and US sales on the film, with IM Global handling the rest of the world.

“It’s a big-budget commercial adventure film, but with a Chinese story and elements such as feng shui,” Wuershan told Screen. Wanda Cultural Group vice president Jerry Ye said the studio had spent three years developing the $40m project to work as a global franchise in both Chinese and international markets.

Starring Chen Kun, Huang Bo and Shu Qi, the film is co-produced by Wanda, Huayi Brothers and Enlight Media.
