The distributor pounced on worldwide rights on Sunday to Tom Ford’s upcoming thriller starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal in a deal reportedly worth $20m.
Focus acquired rights after Ford flew into Cannes to present his vision to buyers and the distributor will release the film in the US with Universal Pictures handling international distribution.
Nocturnal Animals is Ford’s follow-up to A Single Man and based on Austin Wright’s novel Tony And Susan, about a gallery owner deeply troubled by the meaning behind her ex-husband’s new novel.
Production will kick off in the autumn. Focus and Universal brokered the deal with CAA and FilmNation on behalf of the filmmakers.
FilmNation was involved in the biggest deal of Cannes 2014 when Paramount acquired North American and Chinese rights to Story Of Your Life, a sci-fi to star Adams that is scheduled to go into production this summer.
