The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences has announced its shortlist of 15 films that will contest the documentary feature category for the 80th Academy Awards.

The 15 films in alphabetical order are: Autism: The Musical; Body Of War; For The Bible Tells Me So; Lake Of Fire; Nanking; No End In Sight; Operation Homecoming: Writing The Wartime Experience; Please Vote For Me; The Price Of Sugar; A Promise To The Dead: The Exile Journey Of Ariel Dorfman; The Rape Of Europa; Sicko; Taxi To The Dark Side; War/Dance; and White Light/Black Rain.

Many in the documentary community were expressing surprise that some of the more acclaimed docs of the year were omitted from the list, namely My Kid Could Paint That, In The Shadow Of The Moon, We Are Together, Billy The Kid, Crazy Love, Manda Bala and The Devil Came On Horseback.

The documentary branch screening committee viewed all 70 eligible submissions for the preliminary voting round and will now select the five nominees.

The 80th Academy Awards nominees will be announced on January 22 2008 and the Oscar ceremony is set to take place in Hollywood on February 24 2008.
