Universal's crime saga American Gangster will make an aggressive foray into the international market this weekend, launching through UPI in 11 territories including France, Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland on November 14.

The film debuts a day later in Germany and German-speaking Switzerland, and opens in the UK on November 16.

The US hit will be looking to keep up with two Indian smashes - Eros International's Om Shanti Om and Sony's first Indian production Saawariya, which both produced stunning debuts in India and the Indian diaspora worldwide last weekend.

Om Shanti Om has grossed $18.2m while Saawariya, which launched through Sony Pictures Releasing, currently stands at $13.3m.

In addition to Gangster, UPI is launching Elizabeth: The Golden Age, currently on $15.6m, in five including Australia and Russia on November 15. Atonement has grossed $14.3m and has no debuts planned this weekend.

Meanwhile UPI's The Bourne Ultimatum is bearing down on $200m and stands at $195.7m. It should receive a healthy boost this weekend when it arrives in China on November 15.

Paramount's The Heartbreak Kid launches in 12 through PPI including South Africa on November 16 and stands at $43.7m. A Mighty Heart has grossed $8.1m and arrives in Italy on November 16.

Warner Bros Pictures International has no scheduled releases this weekend. Latest figures as of November 11 put The Brave One on $31.7m, The Invasion on $21.8m, License To Wed on $26.8m, and No Reservations on $48.9m.

Spanish hit The Orphanage has grossed $29.8m so far through Warner Bros Spain.

Focus Features International's crime drama Eastern Promises launches in Hong Kong through Panasia this weekend. It has grossed $14.8m to date.

Lust, Caution opens in Russia through Paradise; it has grossed $27.9m through all distributors.

Fox International's Lions For Lambs stands at $12.7m following last weekend's muted release in 45 markets. It launches this weekend in eight territories including India and South Africa.

Die Hard 4.0 has amassed $243.7m and opens in China on Nov 15.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International has no major debuts this weekend, however the Ratatouille juggernaut will continue to roll toward $400m.

The film currently stands at $390m and should cross the milestone by the middle of next week if not before. The Game Plan stands at $12.5m.

Latest figures for Sony Pictures Releasing International put Resident Evil: Extinction, which has also opened in Summit International territories, on $79.5m. Superbad stands at $43.2m, and 30 Days Of Night has grossed $10.9m.
