Spanish director Vicente Aranda has united a high-profilecast for his new Euros 13.6m English-language medieval romantic adventure TheWhite Knight, headlining veteran Victoria Abril with rising stars Paz Vegaand Pilar Lopez de Ayala.

Argentina's Leonardo Sbaraglia and Briton Caspar Zafer roundout the cast, expected to be finalized with a couple of high-profile UKadditions.

The Spanish-UK co-production between Carolina Films, DeAPlaneta and Future Films will be handled internationally by Arclight Films.Shooting begins on January 10.

Knight is based on a section of Joanot Martorell's 15thcentury knight's tale Tirant Lo Blanc, said to be among the firstEuropean novels and considered an inspiration for Cervantes' Don Quijote.Parts have been described as erotic, fitting for Aranda's always-provocativestyle. He has dubbed it "Arthurian Vaudeville."

Vega is fresh from her debut Hollywood outing in directorJames L. Brooks' Spanglish, while Lopez de Ayala co-stars across Robertde Niro in the forthcoming The Bridge Of San Luis Rey. The veteran Abrilworks around Europe but rarely in English.

All three have previously starred for Aranda: Abril was hismuse for many years; Lopez de Ayala helped launch her career in 2001's MadnessOf Love; and Vega starred with Sbaraglia in last year's sexy Carmen.
