Disney readies blizzard of Oz

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International rolls out its adventure fantasy Oz The Great And Powerful in more than 60 territories this weekend day-and-date with North America.

Sam Raimi’s narrative twist on The Wizard Of Oz tale is set to arrive this weekend in the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Mexico, Brazil and Spain.

Further highlights are anticipated in Russia, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Argentina, Singapore, Hong Kong, Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa and Poland.

Wreck It-Ralph has amassed $248.3m, Finding Nemo 3D $24.2m, Monsters Inc 3D $15.4m and Tinker Bell Secret Of The Wings $59.5m.

Fox International’s A Good Day To Die Hard will inevitably relinquish its grip on the international box office arena, however executives will be heartened by the $163.5m-plus running total.

Sony Pictures Releasing International executives reported that Django Unchained stands at $235.8m while Hotel Transylvania has grossed $194.2m.

Working Title’s Les Misérables has taken more than $267m through Universal Pictures International. 

Lionsgate International executives reported that The Impossible has amassed more than $148.1m, Warm Bodies stands at more than $27.3m, The Last Stand has grossed $21.6m and Beautiful Creatures has reached an early $9.7m. Movie 43 is at $19.7m.

Dyatlov Pass Incident directed by Renny Harlin enters its second weekend in Russia after the $2.6m launch through A Company Russia and 20th Century Fox CIS.

The film is based on an actual incident that occurred in 1959 in the remote Ural Mountains when nine experienced hikers were found dead in mysterious circumstances.

“After the enormous success of Cloud Atlas ($16.5m in Russia), the first release of A Company Russia in November 2012, we are very pleased by the opening weekend of Dyatlov Pass Incident,” said A Company Filmed Entertainment CEO Alexander van Dülmen.

Dead Man Down opens day-and-date with North America in Canada, Malaysia/Brunei, the Middle East and Eastern Europe through IM Global licensees.
