Distributor passes the milestone for the ninth consecutive year.
Boosted by this week’s strong opening for Prometheus ($35m from 15 markets), Fox International has crossed the $1bn mark for 2012.
The distributor crossed the milestone on Friday (June 1) with the likes of Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked ($135m this year), This Means War ($100m) and The Descendants ($94m) all providing useful contributions.
By far the biggest slice though belonged to the excellent performance of the 3D re-release of Titanic, which has sailed its way to $286m with an astonishing $145m from China alone.
Fox has now crossed $1bn for the ninth consecutive year - its 12th in total.
It is the only distributor to manage $2bn for three consecutive years - five times in total - and with Prometheus just revving into gear (adding a further $5m on Monday to stand at an early $40m), along with Ice Age 4 and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter upcoming, it is set for a fourth consecutive $2bn+ year in 2012.
