Burleigh Smith has been named executive director at the Denver Film Society (DFS), ending a six-month search to replace DFS co-founder Ron Henderson.

Smith will take the reins on October 14. He has served the last 21 years as the head of film/video and concerts for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he was responsible for programming, promoting, presenting and funding a packed calendar of film and concerts.

Prior to his work in Boston, Smith spent six years in St Paul, Minnesota as director of film-video-performance exhibitions for film in the cities.

'I've known Bo for 20 years and I couldn't be happier with his selection as our new executive director,' Henderson, who retired from his day-to-day role last November but remains a senior programmer, said. 'He is the ideal person to lead us into an exciting new future where the landscape for film exhibition and education is undergoing tremendous change.'

The Starz Denver Film Festival will take place from November 13-23.
