The Cannes Film Festival has announced the names of the latest group of participants for the 14th session of the Cannes Residence.

Director Laurent Cantet presided over a jury which chose six directors from 140 submissions.

The next session will run from March 1 to July 15, 2007 and will see the film-makers develop their first or second feature film.

Each Residence session allows the selected directors to meet with veteran film-makers and industry professionals in order to aid them in the development process.

This session sees one particularity in that of the six directors chosen, five are female.

They are:

Rusudan Chkonia of Georgia for her project Keep Smiling, a tragi-comedy about 10 mothers
Pelin Esmer from Turkey for K And Ali which looks at the daily life of two characters in Istanbul
Milagros Mumenthaler, of Argentina, for Absences which focuses on three sisters following the death of their grand mother
Tan Chui Mui, from Malaysia, with Living Quietly, a fictional autobiography
Mitra Farahani, of Iran, with Coq, Legendes Urbaines
Nadav Lapid, of Israel, with Le Policier about a group of policemen and a group of radical revolutionaries.

The directors will all be present in Cannes this coming May.
