EXCLUSIVE: Salt sells comedy Welcome to the Jungle to UPIE for US, UK.

UPIE, the home entertainment division of Universal Pictures, has picked up US and UK rights to Jean Claude Van Damme comedy Welcome to the Jungle from The Salt Company.

The deal was negotiated by Jasper van Hecke, Robert Aaronson and Samantha Horley for a summer release.

Jungle follows the chaos that ensues after a group of executives are sent to a remote island on a wilderness retreat headed up by an unhinged ex-Marine, played by Van Damme.

Shot in Puerto Rico, directed by Rob Meltzer and starring Van Damme and Adam Brody, the film premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival where it won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking (Ensemble Cast).

Producers are Justin Kanew and Luillo Ruiz for Pimienta, Puerto Rico based sister production company of The Salt Company.

The film has previously sold well around the world.
