German director and actress Margarethe von Trotta will receive the 27th Annual Miami International Film Festival’s (MIFF) Career Achievement Tribute Award.

Organisers also announced that the East Coast premiere of Juan Jose Campanella’s newly anointed foreign language Oscar winner The Secret In Their Eyes from Argentina will be the awards night screening on March 13.

The von Trotta tribute honours a pioneer of feminist cinema whose films often explore the relationship between men and women.

After the presentation on March 10 the festival will screen her latest film Vision (pictured), a biopic about the German Benedictine abbess and influential Middle Ages thinker Hildegard Of Bingen.

German actress Barbara Sukowa, who portrays the abbess, will present the award with Miami Dade College president Dr Eduardo J Padron and other college officials.

“Margarethe von Trotta is a gift of the cinema world,” the festival’s artistic director Tiziana Finzi said. “She is very famous in Europe for the very personal stories she tells about women and their struggles in society, in history, in love, and I wanted to bring her to Miami so people could meet her and appreciate her as they do in other parts of the world.”

MIFF will also honor von Trotta with special screenings of three of most popular films, Rosa Luxemburg, Rosenstrasse, and I Am The Other Woman (Ich Bin Die Andere).
