Films from Marcelo Gomes, Annemarie Jacir, Khalil Joreige and Joana Hadjithomas among selections.

Six films have been chosen for the San Sebastian Film Festival’s Films In Progress section (Sept 21-22) and a further four for the Cinema In Motion programme (Sep 19), both of which highlight and support films nearing the end of filming or which are in post-production.

The Films in Progress programme, which gives support exclusively to Latin America films, runs at the San Sebastian Festival and again at the Rencontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine in Toulouse.

The six chosen films are Era uma vezVerônica (Brazil), by Marcelo Gomes, who participated in the Horizontes Latinos section at the San Sebastian Festival with his Cinema, Aspirinas eUrubus (2005); Infancia Clandestina (Argentina), by Benjamín Ávila, who previously presented the documentary Nietos (Identidad y memoria) in Zabaltegi Specials in 2004; Joven & Alocada (Chile), by Marialy Rivas; Un Mundo Secreto (México), by Gabriel Mariño; La Playa (Colombia), by Juan Andrés Arango and 7 Cajas (Paraguay), by Juan Carlos Maneglia and Tana Schémbori.

Awards in the section include the funding of one film’s entire post production costs, the Casa de América Award for Aid to the Post-Production of Latin American Films and international distribution through the Instituto Cervantes network.

The four titles chosen for Cinema In Motion, which highlights features at the end of their filming or at the post-production stage, made by filmmakers from the Maghreb, Portuguese-speaking African countries and developing Arab countries, are Eliane Raheb’s Confessions and Struggle (Lebanon), Yahya Alabdallah’s The Last Friday (Jordan), Khalil Joreige and Joana Hadjithomas’ Une Fusee Dans Le Ciel (France-Lebanon) and Annemarie Jacir’s When I Saw You (Jordan-Palestine).

Jacir won a prize in Cinema in Motion for Salt of this Sea at the 2007 edition of the festival, while that same year Khalil Joreige and Joana Hadjithomas presented Je veux voir, later selected for Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section.

The programme offers a number of post-production prizes to selected films.
