Phase 4 Films acquired North American rights late on Sunday night to Katie Aselton’s The Freebie, which premiered in the Next section at Sundance.

Aselton wrote, directed and stars in the romantic comedy about a content yet sexually frustrated couple’s experiment to allow each other “one night off.” 

Dax Shepard co-stars. Adele Romanski produced and Aselton served as executive producer with Mark Duplass.

Phase 4’s senior vice-president of Larry Greenberg brokered the deal with Josh Braun and Jason Janego of Submarine Entertainment.

Phase 4 Films plans a theatrical release in the summer.
