Milkshake Films has started principal photography this weekn on Goal! 3. Andy Morahan, veteran of commercials and music videos, direct. That marks a change since 2006, when the producers said Michael Apted would direct.

Mike Jefferies, who wrote the first two films in the football franchise, wrote the script with Piers Ashworth. The final installment of the trilogy is about footballers chasing their dreams at the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany.

Jefferies is producing with Matt Barrelle.

Kuno Becker reprises his role from the first two films, and the cast also features JJ Field, Leo Gregory and Kasia Smutniak.

The project will shoot for five weeks in Nottingham. The team already shot hundreds of hours of action footage during last year's World Cup.

Peter Heslop is co-producing and Peter Hargitay is executive producing.

Producers are aiming to have Goal! 3 ready for Cannes 2008, and it will be released from summer 2008.

Jefferies said: 'We are totally delighted to be going again. Andy has really brought a breath of fresh air and excitement to the franchise and I have no doubt whatsoever that the third part of our adventure is going to be the best yet.'

Goal! (2005) was directed by Danny Cannon, and Goal! 2 was directed by Jaume Collet Serra.
