Australia's Film Finance Corporation board yesterday agreed to finance the feature Hating Alison Ashley to be directed by Rod Hardy from a script by Christine Madafferi.

The teen comedy is an adaptation of Robin Klein's award-winning coming-of-age novel of the same name.

Film Victoria is also contributing funding and a significant amount has come from private financiers. The film has been a long journey for producer Elizabeth Howatt-Jackman, who several months ago teamed up with John Brousek, producer of hit comedy The Wog Boy.

Brousek will also get an executive producer credit alongside Arclight Films principals Gary Hamilton and Victor Syrmis. Arclight has international sales rights and the film will be distributed in Australia by Hoyts Distribution.

The film is about teenagers dealing with their self-inflicted angst, the parents they find embarrassing, their friends and so-called enemies. It will shoot in Melbourne probably in October or November.
