Ben Jagger’s The Paddy Lincoln Gang and Alvaro Longoria‘s documentary Sons Of The Clouds: The Last Colony are among the many new additions to Screenbase this week.

Ben Jagger is adapting his own short film A Night At Robert McAlister’s into a feature-length film, with Alistair Audsley responsible for the screenplay. Jagger is currently shooting The Paddy Lincoln Gang across Los Angeles, with further shooting planned across London and Leeds next month.

The film stars Dean Jagger, Stephen Bridgewater and Glen Matlock and centres on a week in the life of a rock band on the verge of huge success in Los Angeles, but with a dark secret about to explode. Belief Films is producing with Stealth Media and Solus Media financing the project. The former also handles international sales.

Javier Bardem examines the current political turmoil in Northern Africa, a region that is on the brink of war in Longoria‘s documentary Sons Of The Clouds: The Last Colony. Produced by Bardem and Longoria together with Lilly Hartley for Morena Films, shooting is currently under way in Western Sahara. Wild Bunch has acquired worldwide rights, with Morena Films releasing in Spain and HBO holding US rights.

Anne Fontaine is preparing principal photography for French-Australian co-production The Grandmothers, which centres on two women who are best friends since childhood and fall in love with each other’s sons. The $16m drama is based on a novella by Doris Lessing and was adapted by Christopher Hampton. Naomi Watts, Robin Wright, Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville star. Gaumont, Mon Voisin Productions, Ciné@ and Hopscotch Productions have taken on joint production duties, with shooting scheduled to commence next February in Australia.
