Jungle Cineclub is to hold its first monthly screening of Brazilian films at the Rich Mix Cinema, Shoreditch on April 10. For its first season from April-November, the event will be themed around the social origins of violence in Brazilian cinema.

Paulo Morelli's City Of Men will open the event, which regularly will feature Q&A sessions and screenings of short films following internationally renowned Brazilian features.

City Of Men follows two boys growing into adulthood in a Rio favela, surrounded by gang warfare and continual violence. Douglas Silva, one of the film's stars, will attend the screening and take part in a debate about the film's themes.

Other films to be shown in this series include Jose Padilha's Bus 174, Jeff Zimbalist's Favela Rising, and Padilha's Golden Bear winner, The Elite Squad.

The events are held in association with the ABC Trust, a charity dedicated to aiding vulnerable children in Brazil, and Rich Mix, a new arts centre in the heart of London's East End.

The event is presented by JungleDrums Magazine, a bi-monthly publication focused on all things Brazilian.
