Montreal-based sales company Deplhis Films has picked up world rights on Juha Wuolijoki's recent Finnish hit Christmas Story.

The film opened in Finland November 16 through Sandrew Metronome with nearly 22,000 admissions on 60 prints to knock Ratatouille from the top position at the local box office. Delphis will introduce the film at the EFM in Berlin next February.

Delphis vice-president Xiaojuan Zhou, who assumes the title of executive producer on the film, said Christmas Story is a good fit for her catalogue. 'I was instantly intrigued upon seeing a poster art design from the director: A boy looks down on the ice and sees Santa as his reflection. It has been exciting to see how another story on one of the world's most famous characters can be told, from a brand new and engaging angle.'

'Christmas Story is the first major Finnish Christmas movie,' said Wuolijoki in a statement. 'After a grueling shooting under extreme cold conditions in the northern part of Finland as well as really creative post-production including CGI period, we are happy to present our labor of love to the world audience.' He also produced the film through his production company, Snapper Films.
