Indian director Aditya Battacharya’s crime thriller BMW: Bombay’s Most Wanted starts shooting tomorrow (Oct 22), with a cast including The Sopranos’ John Ventimiglia and Indian actress Tannishtha Chatterjee.
The moody, Mumbai-set story revolves around a female TV journalist who is following three characters – a rouge cop, an informer and a bar dancer – and unwittingly gets pulled into their chaotic lives.
The cast also includes Jaaved Jaaferi (3 Idiots), Sarita Choudhury (Mississippi Masala) and Adil Hussain, who stars in Ang Lee’s upcoming Life Of Pi. Asif Noor is producing and the script is written by Bhattacharya, Naman Ramachandran, Satyanshu Singh and Devanshu Singh.
The production has also tapped award-winning US DoP Lisa Rinzler who has twice won the Independent Spirit Award for Menace II Society and Tony Bui’s Three Seasons. Her credits also include Pollock, Steve Buscemi’s Trees Lounge and Wim Wenders’ Lisbon Story.
Jaaferi’s Maximum Media is one of the production houses behind the film, along with Black Pepper and Bhattacharya’s deviEnt. Maximum Media is a new production outfit with a vision to make cutting-edge contemporary Indian cinema. It debuted last year with Ashvin Kumar’s controversial documentary Inshallah Football.
The independently-financed BMW is shooting until December and aiming for delivery around April/May next year.
Bhattacharya is also working on a Los Angeles-set adaptation of his 1989 hit gangland drama Raakh, which was also produced by Asif Noor. His credits also include Italian drama Senso Unico (1999) and Dubai Return (2005), starring Irrfan Khan
