The company hopes the BIG Cinemas Manhattan will become a major destination for the city’s Indian community.

BIG Cinemas, a division of Reliance MediaWorks and a member of Reliance ADA Group, has reopened New York’s The ImaginAsian Theater as BIG Cinemas Manhattan.

The cinema has been refurbished over the past few months and has also been upgraded with new audiovisual technology, including BARCO 2k digital projection.

It is hoped the new cinema will be a destination for the city’s large Indian populations and a key location for premieres and special showings.

Anil Arjun (pictured), CEO of Reliance MediaWorks, said, “New York with its fast-growing and prosperous population of Indians, is the epicentre of growth for us. We see considerable opportunity here in the exhibition infrastructure space starting with the redevelopment of BIG Cinemas Manhattan.”

As part of their expansion plans, BIG Cinemas is setting up standalone properties and cinemas in malls across the US,  including taking over existing properties for redevelopment. At present,  BIG Cinemas has a network of over 188 screens in 27 theatres that screen Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Punjabi movies in addition to Hollywood films. BIG Cinemas has over 515 screens spread across India, the US, Malaysia, Nepal and Netherlands.
