Deals on Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s Sundance doc include Arte, Netflix, RTS.

Dogwoof has closed a string of deals for Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s killer whale documentary Blackfish.

Theatrical deals have closed for Germany, Austria, Switzerland (NFP), Benelux (Remain in Light), Spain (Karma), Iceland (Green Light), and France (Zylo Films).

Arte France has picked up TV rights for France and Germany, RTS the Swiss French rights, VMMA the Flemish, and HBO Europe is to broadcast the film in Central Europe and the Balkans.

Netflix picked up Blackfish for UK, Scandinavia and Latin America, while Jaguar Distribution is to handle airline rights.

Deals were brokered by Ana Vicente and Vesna Cudic of Dogwoof Global.

“Striking deals with partners of such calibre is hugely rewarding for our young team; this is a testament to Dogwoof’s fast growth as a key international player in the mainstream documentary arena,” said Vicente.

The Sundance entry follows Tilikum, a performing killer whale that killed several people while in captivity.
