Principal photography has begun on Robin Aubert’s A L’Origine D’Un Cri for Roger Frappier and Luc Vandal of Montreal-based Max Films. The $3.9m film shoots until July 12 in the Montreal region and the north coast of the St. Lawrence River.

Written and directed by Aubert, whose debut Saint-Martyrs-des-Damnés was also produced by Max Films, the film stars Jan Lapointe, Michel Barrette and Patrick Hivon along with Micheline Bernard, Johanne-Marie Tremblay, Charlotte Laurier, Adèle Reinhardt. The DP is Steve Asselin with production design by David Pelletier.

The story involves a grief-stricken widower who in a fit of alcohol-induced madness disinters her corpse and runs away with it. The man’s son and the man’s father give chase, knowing that they have to find the man before the police do or before he takes his own life.

Speaking to Screen International, Frappier called the film “a very deep and touching and personal road movie by a very talented filmmaker. He is in my view the new Jean-Claude Lauzon.”

The film is backed by SODEC, Telefilm Canada and Astral. It will be distributed in Canada by TVA Films and sold internationally through Max Films International.
