Short film festival Tropfest NY has cut free from the Tribeca Film Festival family and will run as a stand-alone outdoor event in Manhattan on September 26.

The event previously operated as Tropfest@Tribeca in association with Tribeca and will now be presented independently by Tropfest and its founder John Polson.

Approximately 15,000 film lovers are expected to descend on the World Financial Center Plaza by the Hudson River to watch 16 shorts that will be judged on-site for a $20,000 cash prize and two round-trip tickets to Australia.
