SilverDocs will honour Jonathan Demme at the Charles Guggenheim Symposium, the six-day documentary festival's centerpiece event set to take place in June just outside Washington DC.

Demme's documentary work includes: last year's Neil Young: Heart Of Gold; The Agronomist (2003), an account of the life of Haitian journalist and human rights activist Jean Dominique; and his acclaimed 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense.

Demme is currently working on two documentaries. He Comes In Peace follows former US President Jimmy Carter on a US promotional tour for his book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid; while Right To Return focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

As part of the symposium, SilverDocs will screen a series of excerpts from Demme's work, followed by an on-stage interview.

SilverDocs is set to take place from June 12-17.
