Rob Sorrenti's short film Wednesday (UK) won the first jury prize at the Short Cuts International Short Film Festival in Cologne, Germany.

The jury praised the film's 'sensitive script, clear direction and convincing cinematography used to convey the moving story of an apparently coincidental love affair.'

Wednesday has some high profile backers, including Working Title Films and executive producer Stephen Daldry.

Wednesday is the story of a girl and boy, born on the same day in the same hospital, whose paths cross again years later.

Other winners during the Cologne festival (Nov 25-Dec 2) include Samuel Tourneux's Even Doves Go To Paradise, Laurent Daniel's Mickey Und Maria, Elizabeth Marre and Olivier Pont's Manon on The Asphalt, Marcel Belledin's Two Goldfishes, and Gregor Buchkremer's Speed Dating.
