Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group (SPWAG) has acquired international rights from Lakeshore Entertainment to Crank 2: High Voltage in Latin America, Japan, Australia and France, among others, and taken all international rights to The Punisher 2: War Zone from Lionsgate.

Crank 2: High Voltage sees Jason Statham reprise his role as an assassin who goes after a Chinese mobster who has replaced his heart with a battery-operated deveice that requires regular jolts.

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor return as co-writers and directors following their 2006 original. Lionsgate holds North American rights and plans a 2009 release.

The deal was negotiated by SPWAG's senior vice president of worldwide acquisitions Lara Thompson and Lakeshore's senior vice president of international sales Jonathan Deckter.

The Punisher 2: War Zone is based on the Marvel Comics character and will star Ray Stevenson as a former FBI agent turned vigilante. Thomas Jane played The Punisher in the 2004 original.

Lexi Alexander is directing from a screenplay by Matt Holloway, Art Marcum, Nick Santora and Kurt Sutter. The film is in production and will be distributed theatrically in North America through Lionsgate.
