Director Wim Wenders and the German production company Neue Road Movies are planning to develop a new concept for Pina, following the sudden death of choreographer Pina Bausch late last month.

The German director and Bausch were three months into pre-production on the first 3D dance feature when she died just days after being diagnosed with cancer. As reported in ScreenDaily on July 3, production was halted but Wenders and Bausch’s dance company have decided to continue with the project but rework the concert.

Wenders said: “A new concept has to be developed, of course. We are working on it. And we will not let the opportunity and privilege pass to record in 3D the choreographies and dance compositions rehearsed and overseen by Pina Bausch.

Her critical and loving eye is still very present in these works. We feel obliged to fulfil her wish to document her art in the best possible way and to make it available to audiences worldwide.”
